Josué Thomas started Gallery Dept in Los Angeles in 2017 as an art practice that produced clothing. The painted denim jackets and jeans — each one worked on individually in his studio — became the most widely recognized expression of that. The hand-finished tees, the distressed and overdyed pieces, the visible evidence of process in the finished object. The selection here runs across tees and accessories. The painted denim that defines the brand shifts with inventory — when pieces come through, they come through specifically.
